“Hataw Pinoy Chicago!” is the first Filipino-American musical variety show to hit televisions in the Midwest. Through the medium of television, it showcases successful and upcoming Filipino-American artists and introduces them to the television audience. It also provides Filipino American talents much-needed exposure while providing entertainment to kababayan (compatriots) longing for a taste of Pinoy showbiz.
The production opens new doors to the Filipino-American entertainment industry by creating many on- and off-screen experience opportunities for its talents. It enjoys the services of a diverse and talented cast and reaches an all-age demographic. With this focus, it has developed a strong fan base within the Filipino-American community and its cast and crew derives joy from the esteem of an appreciative audience. The production attempts in its own little way to help the community in its desire and effort to become unified and strengthen its voice within the mainstream American society.
The show continues to receive positive feedback as well as constructive criticism from the viewers, showing the level of interest and concern that it is currently enjoying in the community.
Since there were no such shows with formats similar to “Hataw Pinoy Chicago!” on Fil-Am television prior to its inception – it considers itself a pioneer. Still, there are challenges that it continues to hurdle.
